Nurse Practitioner Injector & Advanced Aesthetics located in Arlington Heights, IL & Gold Coast, Chicago, IL

CoolTone is a new innovation in body contouring that focuses on muscle stimulation and toning, rather than fat grafting, freezing and/or melting. The treatment uses Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) to strengthen, firm and tone muscles in the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. The magnetic energy finds its way through the fat layer and specifically targets the muscles, leaving the treated area with noticeable muscle toning. Think going to the gym for strength training, without the actual training.

CoolTone Q & A

How does the CoolTone procedure work?

A special applicator is prepared and placed over the treated area. A magnetic field then emanates from the applicator, thus creating a current when passed through a special conductor. The patient’s muscles act as a key conductor during the treatment because muscle tissue is very dense. Skin and fat are unaffected because they lack density. The magnetic field stimulates muscle contraction and then in turn causes toning of the muscle. In some respects, a typical strength training workout cannot possible match the level of muscle contraction as one attains during a CoolTone treatment.

What are some benefits of CoolTone?

  • Toned and firm abdomen, possibly a “six pack”
  • Toned and firm thighs
  • Toned and firm buttocks

What is magnetic muscle stimulation?

The magnetic field created by the CoolTone procedure delivers strong magnetic pulses directly to muscle tissue. The muscle responds to this by contracting, and intensely at that. Typical muscle contraction relies on your nervous system and the interaction between the brain and your muscles. The CoolTone procedure bypasses this process and goes directly to muscle contraction, stimulating the muscle much more than a typical strength workout.

Is CoolTone safe?

It absolutely is. Magnets are used in a wide variety of medical applications. Magnetic muscle stimulation is actually very common during physical therapy while rehabbing a muscular injury or to treat muscle atrophy. CoolTone is also FDA approved.

How many treatments are needed for optimal CoolTone results?

The most common treatment plan is to begin with a package of four treatments spaced closely together, then monthly maintenance treatments thereafter, but some patients choose more frequent or less frequent treatments, based on budget and goals.

Can you notice the results right away?

Short answer is yes, you’ll see results almost immediately, but the optimal results are about two weeks after treatment. As long as proper protocol is followed, the results will last several weeks.

How long does a CoolTone treatment take?

Each CoolTone treatment takes about 30 minutes, but it can be more if more areas are added.

What does the treatment feel like?

The actual treatment feels like small shocks being sent through your muscles. Many patients find it comforting. After the treatment, many patients report it feeling similar to after an intense workout.

Should you plan for any downtime after treatment?

Not really. You can return to normal activities almost immediately. There may be some discomfort for a day or so after treatment, but it’s all about what your body can tolerate.

Anything special you should know about before CoolTone treatment?

One important thing. The treatment can be done over clothing, as long as there’s no metal on the clothing that would be near the magnetic field. Think rivets on jeans. Belt buckles. Things like that. Also, female patients should know that some IUDs contain metal components and could cause problems during treatment.

Who is a good candidate?

If you’re looking for a toned appearance in the abdomen, thighs, and/or buttocks, CoolTone is for you. If the fat is overly prevalent in the area, fat grafting may be needed before beginning treatment. And interested parties should be aware of any medical devices they have that may contain metal.
