3 Treatments for Acne Scars

3 Treatments for Acne Scars

Even if you no longer get acne outbreaks, you may be frustrated with the unsightly scars left behind. It can be a hassle to try and conceal or cover acne scars, so if you’re looking for a solution, we have you covered.

Leslie Forrester, APRN, and the team at Wrinkle Fairy have years of experience helping patients with acne scars get smooth, clear skin once again. At our locations in Arlington Heights, Gold Coast Chicago, Oakbrook Terrace, and Naperville, Illinois, we can help you get the skin of your dreams.

Leslie offers three unique and effective methods for treating acne scars, so we have you covered no matter the condition of your skin. With dermal fillers, Vampire Facials®, and laser resurfacing, you’ll have clear skin again in no time.

Take a moment to find out more about these fantastic treatments for dealing with acne scars.

1. Dermal fillers

When you have an outbreak of acne, the bacteria triggering the outbreak can seep out of the afflicted pore. This can cause a mild infection in the surrounding skin tissue.

Your body’s immune system responds by sending white blood cells to fight off the infection, but sometimes they can damage the surrounding skin tissues. This causes acne scars, the depressed scars you’re struggling to conceal.

Dermal fillers counteract the negative symptoms of acne scars by adding volume to the depressed areas. This brings fullness back to the affected areas and gives you smooth skin for up to five years.

At Wrinkle Fairy, we use only the most effective, FDA-approved fillers, including:

Leslie evaluates your skin condition, medical history, and aesthetic goals to determine if fillers are right for you and which is best for your needs.

2. Vampire Facials

A Vampire Facial is not as scary as it sounds. This treatment combines two powerful methods, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and microneedling, to erase your acne scars.

The first part, PRP, uses the power of your blood’s platelets to engage your body’s natural healing processes and smooth out your acne scars.

Platelets are cells found in your blood that help your blood clot after a cut or injury. They also have powerful growth factors that boost cell production and play an important role in your body’s healing process.

Platelets trigger your body to create more stem cells and proteins called collagen and elastin. The top layer of your skin naturally sheds after a platelet treatment, replaced with skin from the newer and tighter collagen and elastin fibers

Your Wrinkle Fairy provider creates a concentrated solution of platelets called a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) by drawing a small amount of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge in the office. PRP is used after the second part of the Vampire Facial, microneedling.

Microneedling is an aesthetic technique that uses a specialized tool with miniscule needles to form microchannels in your skin. These wounds are so tiny that they don’t bleed, but are enough to trigger your body to increase collagen and elastin production.

The extra collagen and elastin cause the new skin cells to have tighter and firmer protein bands, which means smoother skin and less noticeable acne scars.

The PRP solution comes in after the microneedling. The solution is applied to the microchannels, boosting the effects of the microneedling and speeding up your skin turnover.

This means you’ll see results faster than if you just had microneedling alone. Additionally, the increase in collagen and elastin production triggered by the Vampire Facial results in your body making even more collagen after the procedure, making your results last for longer.

3. Nonsurgical laser resurfacing

Our third option for treating acne scars is a surgery-free solution for difficult skin issues. Laser resurfacing delivers short pulses of concentrated light and heat into your skin.

This removes thin layers of skin and stimulates new growth. The size and appearance of your acne scars improve after laser resurfacing, and you’re left with rejuvenated and fresh skin

At Wrinkle Fairy, we use LaseMD™ or Fractora® therapy. These laser therapies use fractional photothermolysis to target small areas for intense and effective treatment.

Laser therapy is a safe and effective way to minimize scars without the recovery time required by surgical revision. However, replacing scarred skin tissue takes time, so you can plan to see your best results after several weeks.
