Why Who Administers Your Injectables Matters

If you’re considering using injectables like Botox® or dermal fillers to correct the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging, you’ll join a growing number of people who are choosing these treatments for dramatic results without surgery.

These injectables are so popular that they ranked as the top two minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2019.

With such demand, it’s likely that you’ve noticed all types of aesthetic providers offering injectables. While Botox and dermal fillers are considered to be safe when administered by a trained professional, these substances can cause unattractive and potentially damaging results when administered without proper knowledge and training.

With so many providers offering treatment, it’s important to choose an experienced injectables specialist to help you achieve the results you desire. At Wrinkle Fairy, Leslie Forrester, APRN, and our team have the credentials and expertise necessary to administer injectables to deliver the best possible outcomes.

Find out how injectables work and how consulting with an experienced provider can make the difference in improving your appearance and protecting your well-being.

How Botox works

Botox is a brand of cosmetic injectable that contains botulinum toxin, a byproduct of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The injectable Dysport® contains the same substance.

In high doses, this toxin can result in botulism, a form of muscle paralysis. When administered as a cosmetic treatment, we inject a very small amount of the toxin into the muscle under your skin that causes a wrinkle. The treated muscle becomes paralyzed in a relaxed state.

A Botox or Dysport injection prevents the skin above the muscle from wrinkling. This gives the area a smooth, youthful appearance until the effect wears off, usually in about four months.

How dermal fillers work

Dermal fillers refer to several brands of injectables that contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring cushioning agent.

Hyaluronic acid occurs in your body naturally but decreases with age. As you lose optimal levels of hyaluronic acid, skin structure and volume decrease, emphasizing the look of wrinkles.

There are several brands of FDA-approved dermal fillers. Each brand includes several products designed to treat a specific area. We use products by Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, and Scupltra® (note that Radiesse and Sculptra are NOT composed of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is made up of opaque calcium hydroxyapatite and Sculptra is comprised of mainly poly-L-lactic acid). We recommend the appropriate dermal filler or combination of products best suited for your needs.

How an experienced provider can impact results

Helping patients achieve natural-looking results involves an understanding of aesthetics and facial anatomy. Experienced injectables providers undergo professional training that helps them perfect the techniques necessary to safely deliver desired outcomes.

The results you receive from working with an experienced Botox or Dysport provider are more likely to include:

Experience and training also matter with the administration of dermal fillers. Working with a trained provider can help you achieve results that include:

Working with a trained injectables provider also prevents you from wasting your time and money with treatments that produce no noticeable effects.
